About Us
Hicks’ Barbershop has been serving the city of Dayton, Ohio for eleven years. Beyond providing the usual tonsorial services, we’ve put a focus on curating an affable environment for our clients. A true respite from the tedium that day to day life can tend to bring.
The owner of this shop, James Hicks, found his calling to the craft of barbering in his time as a Radio Operator with the USMC. Often deployed at sea for extended periods of time, he and his fellow Marines were want for haircuts with a closer eye for detail than what could typically be provided on the ships. As it would turn out, James had that kind of ability himself. It’s here that he began in the craft. Some years later, he would open his own shop, striving to provide a consistent and superb service.
Joining James in the shop is fellow barber, Gabriel Coomer. Gabriel grew up in Dayton, and it was as he was attending an arts high school that he met James through a mutual friend. Upon this meeting, he was immediately drawn to the trade. In barbering, Gabriel figured he would find something to truly call his own. He entered Barber College right after graduating high school. In that time he also shadowed James, taking the opportunity to learn some of the finer points of the profession. Barber College came to a close, and Gabriel joined James in the shop. He shares the same sentiments as James in regards to the craft. Doing the kind of work you would be proud to stand by.
